Hi there! My name is Kim Asmussen, also known as the “Snowshoe Art” guy. I am a retired school teacher and principal who has turned my retirement into a passion for creating exciting designs in the winter wonderland that is Northern Ontario in Canada.

Where does my inspiration come from?
I follow in the footsteps, or should I say snow prints, of one of the greats Simon Beck. After seeing his snow shoe art pieces I decided to give it a go myself. And since my first image I have made it my passion to craft new images where and when I can. And if the snow isn’t falling, I have other art forms and projects to keep me going!
I made my first showshow art back in 2017 and since then have done over 100 pieces across Canada.
In 2024 I was asked to expand out from the cold snow to the summer grass and created a design logo for golf’s President’s Cup held in Montreal that year. Definitely a challenge but a nice accomplishment to pull it off.
How do I make the art?
It is a combination of coming up with a concept, doing a digital design, identifying the location, waiting for mother nature, laying out a guide, then putting some miles on the snowshoes.

FAQs
What kind of snowshoes do you use?
I mainly use “modern” style snowshoes which are much easier to move in, but we will use “traditional” sets when the need arises.
Where do you get the ideas?
From all over, sometimes an image, an upcoming holiday, or other inspirations in my life like my grandkids.
What do I need to make my own art?
An idea, a tape measure, some snowshoes and fresh snowfall.
Do you do art on request?
Yes, I do. I’m always open to ideas, and have done some arts for larger events/corporations.
